Lutali Carne Set to Open on Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn

Lutali, the popular kosher dairy restaurant, is expanding into meat with a new location called Lutali Carne at 1640 Coney Island Avenue between Avenue M and Avenue N in Brooklyn’s Midwood neighborhood.

The Lutali Background

The original Lutali dairy location opened at 1111 Avenue K in Brooklyn in the former Cafe K space. Owner Ralph Mohadeb named the restaurant after his wife Tali, adding the Italian-sounding prefix. According to a profile in The Jewish Link, the restaurant seats about 40 people and focuses on Italian-inspired comfort food rather than fine dining theatrics.

The dairy location’s menu features pasta, fish, and sushi. Based on delivery platforms and reviews, standout items include crispy rice appetizers with spicy tuna and salmon, tuna balsamic steak served over mashed potatoes, truffle parmesan fries, and their tiramisu made with real mascarpone.

Lutali’s second dairy location opened in Toms River, NJ, at 2066 Lakewood Road, near the rapidly growing Lakewood kosher restaurant food scene.

What to Expect from Lutali Carne

The Lutali Carne website is live but sparse on details. “Carne” means meat in both Italian and Spanish, signaling the restaurant’s shift from dairy to fleishig.

Given Lutali’s Italian-leaning approach at their dairy locations, the meat version will likely feature steaks, grilled meats, and meat-based pasta dishes. Whether they’ll maintain the same casual, cozy vibe or position Lutali Carne as more upscale remains to be seen.

The Neighborhood Context

Lutali Carne is entering a dense stretch of kosher restaurants on Coney Island Avenue. Margez Grill House is literally a few doors away at 1018 Avenue M. Margez, which opened in 2022, serves Moroccan-Israeli grilled meats and steaks, with items like couscous tajine with lamb shank and Moroccan cigars.

More notably, Lutali Carne sits directly across from the still-unopened MISHA at 1635 Coney Island Avenue. MISHA has been under renovation for over two years in the former Wolf and Lamb location. The irony of Lutali Carne potentially opening and operating successfully while MISHA remains dormant across the street isn’t lost on anyone watching Brooklyn’s kosher scene.

The area also includes numerous other kosher options within walking distance, making this one of Brooklyn’s most competitive kosher dining corridors. Whether the market can support another meat restaurant, particularly with Margez already established nearby, is an open question. Already, we have reason to believe that numerous kosher restaurants in Flatbush are suffering from a combination of increased competition, a dwindling Jewish kosher consumer, and economic headwinds.

Current Status

As of late November 2025, Lutali Carne has not announced an opening date. The website provides minimal information, and the Instagram account @_lutali hasn’t posted updates about the meat location.

We intend to update this article when Lutali Carne announces an opening date, releases menu details, or provides information about kosher supervision.
