Coffee Redefined Brings Its Buzz to Avenue M

Brooklyn’s coffee enthusiasts have something exciting brewing: Coffee Redefined, a beloved staple from Nostrand Avenue, is opening a second location on Avenue M, between East 14th and 15th Streets. Known for its exceptional coffee and legendary babka, this expansion is poised to energize a block that has felt quieter since the closure of Organic Circle a few months ago.

A New Chapter for Avenue M

The new Coffee Redefined location will occupy a smaller storefront slightly down the block from the large vacant space left by Organic Circle. While not filling the sizable void, Coffee Redefined’s arrival promises to inject new life into the area. The block has been yearning for a revival, and this addition could be a catalyst for foot traffic and community engagement.

Interestingly, this new location has been in the works for over a year, but it seems there were significant delays along the way.

Designed by Adina Kornbluth, the Avenue M location, located at 1409 Avenue M, aims to create a sophisticated urban space where patrons can enjoy artisanal breads, pastries, and expertly crafted coffee. The interior design reflects Coffee Redefined’s ethos of blending comfort with style, offering an inviting atmosphere for both casual meetups and cozy work sessions.

Nostrand Avenue’s Legacy Expands

The original Coffee Redefined at 2771 Nostrand Avenue has built a loyal following thanks to its high-quality offerings and the passion of its owner, Jonathan Fischer. Known for his dedication to third-wave coffee culture and decadent pastries, Fischer has cultivated a community-centric vibe that makes every visit feel personal. Signature items like their chocolate babka and seasonal drinks have become favorites.

The new location will feature the same attention to detail in its coffee preparation—whether it’s a perfectly balanced pour-over or a rich mocha latte—and an array of irresistible baked goods.

A Boost for the Neighborhood

Avenue M’s commercial landscape has seen its share of challenges in recent years. The closure of Organic Circle left a noticeable gap in the area’s vibrancy. Coffee Redefined’s arrival is more than just another café opening; it represents hope for revitalizing this stretch of Midwood. With a number of large real estate developments nearby, such as The Vitagraph and the smaller 1615 Cedar Street, there is demand for a quality cafe, as is illustrated by the popularity of Very Juice (on Avenue M between 18th and 19th Streets). Notable Kosher Brooklyn restaurants near the new Coffee Redefined include Foccacia Pizza, which is a block away. Falafel Tanami, rated by the NY Times as one of the city’s top food spots, is on East 17th Street off of Avenue M, and our choice for the best kosher pizza, Bennys on Avenue M, is on East 18th Street. Patis Bakery on Avenue M is also a couple of blocks away, but in light of the bankruptcy, experience and availability have been spotty, and the future longevity of the location is unclear.

As Brooklynites eagerly await the opening date, one thing is certain: Coffee Redefined’s new venture is set to become a cornerstone of Avenue M. Whether you’re stopping by for your morning latte or savoring their legendary babka with friends, this café promises to be a delicious and much-needed value-add to the neighborhood.
