Bonito Brings Kosher Fine Dining To Chelsea
Chef Josh Kessler of the immensely popular Barnea Bistro is bringing a new kosher restaurant to the previously lacking neighborhood of Chelsea.
As reported by YeahThat’sKosher, Bonito, located at 31 West 17th Street NY, between 5th and 6th Avenues, has opened. The restaurant offers menu items “designed to be shared” and a lineup of crafted cocktails.
Initial reviews of the restaurant give it high marks for its unique ambiance, decor, and service, though the small tapas-style plates at the higher end of the price spectrum should be considered.
Our Favorites
While there are numerous gems on the menu, our favorites are listed below:
Papas con Pato – Duckfat, duck confit, spiced potato skins, Poached egg, garlic aioli
Breaded Veal (Generous Portion) – Arugula salad, tartar sauce, balsamic reduction
Cocktails – The cocktails on offer at Bonito are, in our opinion, some of the highest quality and unique tasting for a kosher restaurant.
Rumors of Expansion
On a random weekday summer evening in 2023, Bonito was packed, but luckily, we were somehow able to snag the last open table without a reservation (not recommended). It is not surprising that with so much demand for seating and the restaurant being relatively small, we have heard that Bonito is eyeing expansion.
