Bonito Relocates to 47th Street from Its Original Chelsea Location
Bonito has relocated from its Chelsea location to 114 W 47th St, between 6th and 7th Avenues. It is now called “Bonito 47” and is in a larger location. It is a whopping 7,000 square feet —quite the upgrade from the relatively small former Bonito in Chelsea.
Chef Josh Kessler of the immensely popular Barnea Bistro is opening a new kosher restaurant in Chelsea, a previously underserved neighborhood.
As reported by YeahThat’sKosher, Bonito, located at 31 West 17th Street, NY, between 5th and 6th Avenues, has opened. The restaurant offers menu items “designed to be shared” and a lineup of crafted cocktails.
Initial reviews of the restaurant give it high marks for its unique ambiance, decor, and service, though the small tapas-style plates at the higher end of the price spectrum should be considered.
“My long-term goal is to continue to add new concepts into kosher cuisine and to continue to elevate kosher dining… bringing exciting new concepts to guests, kosher and non-kosher.”
– Chef Josh Kessler
Our Favorites
While there are numerous gems on the menu, our favorites are listed below:
Papas con Pato – Duckfat, duck confit, spiced potato skins, Poached egg, garlic aioli
Breaded Veal (Generous Portion) – Arugula salad, tartar sauce, balsamic reduction
Cocktails—Bonito’s cocktails are, in our opinion, some of the highest quality and unique tasting for a kosher restaurant.
Saturday Night Jazz
As a nice touch, Bonito has a live jazz trio on Saturday nights, which is quite unique for a kosher restaurant. The restaurant is open on Saturday nights when Shabbat ends earlier in the colder months.
