Brooklyn burger lovers have reason to rejoice!

Josephโ€™s Dream Burger will be opening on the corner of Avenue M and East 17th street.
The kosher burger joint has an existing location on Coney Island between Avenues O and P. The shop was actually previously branded as Burgers Bar of Israel fame but that branding was ditched because of what was allegedly high licensing fees for use of the name.
It is unclear if the original Josephs will be staying open when the location on Avenue M begins operating. The spot on Coney Island has Sophieโ€™s Grill directly across the street which makes competition perhaps a little too close for comfort. The wildly popular Bordeaux Steakhouse is also across the street.

Even though the two Joseph Dream Burger locations will be relatively close (if the original one remains open), the Avenue M location would still have high potential due to lack of nearby competition.

The new location on Avenue M is replacing a fast food spot called BK Burger Bar. The owner of BK Burger Bar ran a dairy restaurant at the same location called Frappe Wrappe prior to its reincarnation as a burger spot. Neither Frappe Wrappe nor BK Burger Bar seemed to catch the success train and there was a notice of the business being for sale that appeared in April 2018 at an asking price of $100,000. The rent for the property is $4,100 a month for what is a relatively small though highly trafficked corner. The high traffic is especially apparent during the summer months when Ritaโ€™s Ices, which is next door, brings the crowds out. There is also a popular 7-Eleven across the street and the Q line of the subway is less than two short blocks away.

Avenue M is actually quite devoid of fast food meat options. There was an Israeli style meat restaurant called Shifka that opened in late 2018 on the same block but their presence was very short lived. Management of Josephโ€™s are quite experienced and the lack of burgers and related grilled fare for this part of Midwood makes us believe this burger joint has a good chance at success.

UPDATE DECEMBER 2019

Josephโ€™s Dream Burger has now further expanded with a location opening at 1202 Avenue J in Brooklyn. The corner store is the former home to Prime Burger and subsequently, KD Express. Based on the impressive success that Josephโ€™s on Avenue M has been experiencing, we wonder how this new location will do.
