Manhattan’s Rothschild TLV Window Smashed

Rothschild TLV, a popular kosher restaurant on Lexington Avenue in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, started the day with a smashed window. According to the owner, Mike Kalbo, the perp committing the โ€œsmash and runโ€ had his face covered and was captured on camera shortly after 2 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15th. Guy Kairi, the chef at the restaurant, told the New York Post that โ€œthere were people passing by yesterday saying bad things, things like, โ€˜No wonder this place is empty, free Palestine.โ€

The restaurant, which offers fine dining Mediterranean, among other specialties, is named after the famous Rothschild Boulevard in Tel Aviv. Some of the most popular dishes on offer at the restaurant include risotto, sweetbreads, short rib soup, ribeye, and beef cheek.

The vandalism of Rothschild TLV is not the first kosher restaurant to be subjected to attack amid the heightened tension post-October 7th and the resulting Israel-Hamas war. For example, a popular kosher cafe on the Upper West Side was vandalized with graffiti back in March. There were numerous other instances of both vandalism and a mix of threats and intimidation at other kosher restaurants, not only in New York City but in other cities across the globe. All that said, as of this writing, we have not seen definitive proof that the attack on Rothschild TLV was motivated by the conflict versus some other motivation, though many assume the โ€œcurrent momentโ€ was the cause.
